Get to know Thonotosassa
Thonotosassa is an inland community in northeastern Hillsborough County associated with Lake Thonotosassa. Its local history includes a rail connection with Tampa, and the lake remains a useful geographic reference.
Hillsborough community planning recognizes Thonotosassa as a distinct area with a rural identity. The wider landscape differs from the county's central urban neighborhoods, although individual properties can have very different immediate surroundings.
For a home near the lake or with substantial land, look closely at the parcel, access and permitted uses. A rural or lakeside community name should not be taken as confirmation of private water access or unrestricted land use.
