Bushnell is Sumter County's county seat, situated south of Coleman and west of Center Hill. It offers a separate town focus from the Wildwood and Villages areas in the north, within the county's inland Central Florida setting.

Dade Battlefield Historic State Park provides a major historical landmark in the city. Its grounds combine interpretation of the 1835 battle with oak and pine landscapes, adding a public cultural and outdoor destination to Bushnell's county-seat setting.
