South Venice lies south of Venice Gardens and southwest of Venice in Sarasota County. It occupies the mainland coastal side of the southern county, distinct from Venice's central island area.

Plantation lies farther east, while Englewood is to the south. Its position places South Venice between the Venice-centered region and the communities that continue down the coast toward Charlotte County.
