Osprey lies south of Sarasota and north of Laurel along the mainland coastal corridor. The waterways behind Casey Key form part of the wider setting, while the community itself is separate from the barrier island.
Oscar Scherer State Park provides a major natural landmark, with habitat for Florida scrub-jays and a connection to the Legacy Trail. It adds an outdoor dimension to the area beyond the nearby coastal shoreline.
