Nokomis lies north of Venice and south of Laurel. Its mainland coastal setting is associated with the waterways behind Casey Key, giving it a different geography from the Gulf-facing barrier island itself.

The community belongs to the central portion of Sarasota County's coastal corridor. Osprey lies farther north, while Venice's separate town center and island area provide another nearby regional focus to the south.
