Laurel sits between Osprey and Nokomis in Sarasota County. It is part of the mainland coastal corridor south of Sarasota, with the barrier-island shoreline lying farther west.
Nokomis and Venice anchor the area to the south, while Osprey connects it with the communities farther north. Laurel is a distinct local place within that corridor, rather than another name for Venice or Casey Key.
