Doctor Phillips is in southwestern Orange County, immediately east of Bay Hill and north of Lake Buena Vista. Often written as Dr. Phillips, the community has its own identity within the much larger area commonly described as Orlando.

Orange County recognizes a Dr. Phillips Urban Preservation District, reflecting the area's established community history. That designation is separate from the outline used to describe any one subdivision or the amenities attached to an individual property.
