Lake Kerr lies in northeastern Marion County, well east of Reddick and north of Silver Springs. Its position places it on the forest and lake side of the county, separate from the urban area around Ocala.

The Ocala National Forest landscape forms an important part of the broader surroundings. The lake and forest geography create a different regional identity from the communities grouped around Ocala and the horse-country side of western Marion County.
