Whitfield lies south of Bayshore Gardens near the Manatee-Sarasota county line. It occupies the mainland corridor between the Bradenton and Sarasota areas, separate from the islands across the bay.
The community's position gives it a southern Manatee County identity. North Sarasota lies farther southeast, while the bay and Longboat Key frame the wider coastal geography to the west.
