Bradenton sits on the southern side of the Manatee River, across from Palmetto. Its downtown and riverfront provide an urban center within a county that also includes barrier islands, fishing communities and inland neighborhoods.

The Riverwalk, Bishop Museum of Science and Nature and Village of the Arts are recognizable local destinations. These cultural and waterfront features give Bradenton an identity beyond its role as the mainland gateway to nearby beaches.
