Bradenton Beach occupies the southern portion of Anna Maria Island. The Gulf lies on one side and Anna Maria Sound on the other, creating a narrow island setting separate from mainland Bradenton.

Bridge Street provides a local shopping and dining focus, while Coquina and Cortez beaches help define the surrounding shoreline. Cortez village lies across the water on the mainland, despite sharing its name with one of the island's beaches.
