Montverde lies east of Minneola and north of Clermont, on the Lake Apopka side of Lake County. The town's eastern position sets it apart from Groveland and Mascotte on the western side of the southern county.

Montverde Academy is a longstanding local institution, with origins as a small school in 1912. Its presence adds an educational and historical landmark to the town's Lake Apopka-side setting without defining the entire surrounding community.
