Howey-in-the-Hills lies south of Tavares and east of Yalaha, beside Little Lake Harris. Its setting is tied to the southern side of the Harris lake area, offering a different geographic perspective from Leesburg to the northwest.

Little Lake Harris links the town's setting with the larger Harris lake region. The water separates and connects nearby communities, giving Howey-in-the-Hills a lake-oriented geography distinct from the Clermont-area towns farther south.
