Palm Coast occupies a broad area of eastern Flagler County, inland from much of the Atlantic shoreline. Canals and the Intracoastal Waterway are recognizable parts of the city's landscape, alongside a network of paths and trails.

Its large geographic footprint distinguishes it from smaller neighboring towns such as Beverly Beach. Bunnell lies to the southwest, while the coastal communities provide a separate oceanfront setting along the eastern edge of the region.
