Charlotte Harbor is a mainland community on the northern side of the Peace River's meeting with the harbor. Port Charlotte lies to the west, while Punta Gorda is across the water to the south.

The shoreline and river crossing give this small area a recognizable geographic identity. It belongs to the harbor-facing part of Charlotte County, rather than the Gulf beach communities around Englewood and Manasota Key.
