Newberry lies west of Gainesville and north of Archer. It anchors the western side of Alachua County's community network, making it a logical place to explore when a buyer's preferred setting is outside the central Gainesville area.

The city's history includes phosphate mining and a railroad connection dating to the nineteenth century. Those origins provide context for understanding Newberry as its own town, rather than treating the entire western county as an extension of Gainesville.
